About Girls' Tennis

Madison West High School has four girls tennis teams: Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshmen Blue and Freshmen Gold. The teams compete in the Big Eight conference. The season runs from early August through October. Varsity and JV home games are played at Madison West High School, 30 Ash Street, Madison, Wisconsin. Girls tennis has participated in the Team State Tournament ten times (1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009) since 1994 when two divisions were created, including second place in 1997 and a semi-finalist in 2009, 2008, 1999, and 1996.

  • All-Area Honors
    Congratulations to Rachel Margolies for being named 2009 All-Area Fall Prep Athlete of the Year in Girls Tennis. In addition, Samantha Nagin was selected to the Singles First Team, and Allie Dyer and Jenni Mohoney were chosen for the Doubles First Team.   • Team State Tournament
    Congratulations to the Varsity for finishing tied for third at Team State. After a 6-1 victory over Marshfield in the first round, West lost a very close match to Oshkosh West 3-4 in the semi-finals. For more information, see the team tournament schedule and results.
  • Individual State Tournament
    Kudos to Rachel Margolies for finishing 5th in the Singles tournament. Congratulations to Allie Dyer and Jenni Mohoney for making it to the Round of 16 in the Doubles bracket. Also playing in the Individual State Tournament and performing well were Samantha Nagin in singles, and Sarah Kuhn and Lauren Rosenstock in doubles.

  • Sectional Results
    Congratulations to Varsity for winning the Sectional tournament, with all seven flights playing in the finals! A resounding win with 52 points to second place Onalaska and La Crosse Logan at 29 points each.

  • Conference Tournaments
    Congratulations to the Varsity for finishing first in their Big-8 Conference tournament, the Junior Varsity for finishing second in their Big-8 Conference tournament, and the Freshman team which, when points for the Blue and Gold teams were combined, placed first at the All-City tournament!

• Awards and Captains
  Awards presented at the team banquet were given to: Rachel Margolies (Varsity MVP), Laura Ketterhagen (JV MVP), Nora Feldman (Varsity Most Improved Player), Ally Mundt (JV Most Improved Player), Allie Dyer (Varsity Regent Award), Nicole Foreyt (JV Regent Award), Grace Handy (Freshman Blue Regent Award), and Rachel Vierstra (Freshman Gold Regent Award).

  The Varsity co-captains in 2010 will be Rachel Hostetler and Maddie Poranski.
